Wiki is a BritishLocalHistory reference guide in which the contents are created, edited and organised by the BritishLocalHistory community. Every member of the community has the ability to create, edit, and organise pages.

Articles at Wiki are collaboratively edited by the BritishLocalHistory community. Once an article has been created, other members are then able to make changes to, correct, or build upon the article. This collaborative editorial process allows articles to become rich sources of accurate and regularly updated information based on the collective knowledge of numerous local and social history enthusiasts and professionals.

Wiki is organised in an hierarchical structure and consists of pages. Pages can be articles or categories.

• Articles are pages that contain objective content. They can be the definition of an historical term, the answer to a frequently asked question, specific and acknowledged description of an historical fact, place, persons or event. To create a new page or link with an existing Wiki page or an existing Wiki article simply use the [[ and ]] to enclose the name of the category. Example - [[England]] - will link to the page about England.
• Before creating an article, consider doing a search on Wiki to see if it or a similar article already exists. If it has already been created, then you can click "Edit" to the top right and build upon its content. If the article you are looking for does not exist, you can create it by clicking on the box in the right hand column.

BritishLocalHistory Wiki is a reference guide, not a discussion group. In other words, Wiki is not a place to ask questions for others to answer. Please use our Forum to do this. Wiki is the place to share your expertise about local and social history subjects that matter and to be an author of a global BritishLocalHistory reference.

Every article has "Edit", "Forum" and "History" features that can be accessed through the top navigation.

• "Edit" - change or build upon the page.
• "Forum" - talk about issues regarding the article, such as why you might think it should be renamed or why you edited the second paragraph. This is a great way to communicate with other contributors to streamline the collaborative editorial process for an article.
• "History" - see how the article has developed over time. Compare any two edits in history to see how they differ.
