Volunteer Opportunities in Gloucester
February 1, 2010
More benefits than you ever thought possible!
Open Evening – Weds 3 February 2010 6.30pm until 8pm Nature In Art, Twigworth
For some people volunteering is a way of life. It is social, stimulating and an enjoyable way to work for your local community. Not everyone has been lucky enough to have discovered all the benefits of volunteering, particularly at our museums and galleries. A good way to find out more is to come along to our special event.
Refreshments – A Tour of the Galleries – Meet the curators & other volunteers – Preview of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year ExhibitionReserve your place at this special open evening by emailing felicitas@btinternet.com or calling 01684 273656
Three Gloucestershire museums (Nature in Art, Soldiers of Gloucestershire and The National Waterways Museum) are hoping to recruit new volunteers and want to explain just what you can get out of volunteering with them.
You may want to digitise a collection, or help in the archives. You may be looking at a career in museums and want valuable experience for your CV. You may have been out of work for a while and need a way to retrain and gain confidence. Some people volunteer to make use of skills that are underused at work.
Volunteers should benefit properly from giving us their unpaid labour. Volunteering should enrich and increase the value of their experiences and when we get the right person for the right project it means we can give them real responsibility. Our volunteers have sowed the acorns from which the oak has grown.
All three museums are looking for a wide range of people, who have a few hours to spend and who are interested in the countys heritage.
Here are just some of the jobs currently being undertaken by volunteers; museum curators, exhibition officers, education officers, historic house gardeners, accountants, secretaries, tour guides, historical re-enactors, archivists, shop managers and visitor service staff.
Volunteers also have access to a wide range of FREE or subsidised professional training courses throughout the year.
