A New and Improved Website!!!

Welcome to our new look homepage

Its improved layout and graphics will help to make navigation around the site even easier than it was before. We have also included several exciting new features which we hope will add to the value and enjoyment of your online experience with us.

These innovations include:

1. New addition – “Current Exhibition” – this section will be updated periodically as new exhibitions and acquisitions allow. Initially we are featuring a seasonal display of some of our Christmas cards home from various campaigns.

2. New addition – “Featured Collection Item” – a more in-depth look at an existing item in our collection. We welcome suggestions from online visitors to help choose items for this more detailed treatment. To match our seasonal theme, as our initial selection, we have chosen an embroidered pin cushion, made in South Africa in 1900 during the Boer War as a Christmas present.

3. New choice – The “Timeline” can now be read in plain text format as well as the interactive version. You decide with a click of your mouse which version suits you best. The illustration features a contemporary print of the battle of Ramillies.

4. More WWI soldiers – The names of about 1,500 officers who served with the Gloucestershire Regiment during the First World War have been added to our online database. Pictured above is 2nd Lt H C Ryland of 12th Glosters (Bristol’s Own), just one of the officers whose details are now included in the database.

Future releases

We are currently working on a number of other updates, and in the Spring of 2008 we intend to launch a much updated Collection Database.
