The operation to recover The Falklands in 1982 was an immensely hazardous undertaking.The projection of military power across 8000 miles of ocean was no easy matter.It was successful because of firm political will and the skill,courage and sheer determination of the sailors,soldiers and airmen involved.
Throughout the conflict Hew Pike,later a Lieutenant General,was Commanding Officer of the 3rd Battalion,The Parachute Regiment,for which he was awarded the Distinguished Service Order.
